The Bible is Perfect and Eternal
18th October 2024
According to Premier Christian News, in an article published online on 9th October 2024, a Californian called Drew Stever, whom Premier described as a "transgender pastor", while speaking about "creating a more inclusive ministry", said that "The Bible wasn't written for 2024". If Premier Christian News reported his words accurately, as I expect they did, and if Drew Stever means what he said, then this deeply troubling statement raises a number of questions.
Firstly, when does Drew Stever think the period that the Bible was written for ended? Was it written for the first century A.D. but not the second? For the second but not the third? For the twentieth but not the twenty-first? He seems to think it was relevant once.
Secondly, why does Drew Stever think God wrote a book for us that is a unique revelation of His character and His design for mankind, and then allow it to time-expire? Why does Drew Stever think God hasn't given us a replacement holy book?
Thirdly, if the Bible was not written for 2024, why are we still reading it?
Fourthly, if Drew Stever doesn't read the Bible, then presumably he doesn't preach it. If he doesn't preach the Bible, then in what sense does he think he's a pastor?
Fifthly, if the Bible were not written for 2024, how would people living in 2024 know what is true and what is false? How would we know about Jesus? How would we know about justification by faith? How could we be saved?
Sixthly, does Drew Stever really believe that Bible doesn't apply in 2024, or only the parts of it he doesn't like?
Seventhly, how desperately must Drew Stever want to believe his non-Biblical ideas, that it drives him to reject the greatest book ever written, authored by God Himself?
Eighthly, why does Premier Christian News describe somebody who rejects the holy word of God as "a pastor"?
Ninthly, how far do people have to deviate from the true faith before genuine Christians are prepared to expose them as false teachers?
Tenthly, does not this sort of nonsense serve as a timely reminder for Christians that that we must "contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints" (Jude 3) by defending the Bible and loudly proclaiming that it is infallible, unchanging and eternal, and by reaffirming that, in the words of Question 3 of the Westminster Catechism:
What is the Word of God?
The holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the Word of God, the
only rule of faith and obedience.
Please pray for the world-wide church, which is being infiltrated by such ungodliness.
